The name Triood comes from “Tribe Wood” and was inspired by a primitive African chair the designers discovered. The robust structure with wide seat and exquisite craftsmanship is homage to their affection for ancient cultures. The chairs are stackable and have the option of a seat cushion.
Handcrafted from the highest-quality Nara timbers, famously used in traditional Japanese architecture including the 300-year-old Horyu-ji temple. The timber is prized for its dense, narrow annual rings and strength, beautiful colour, lustre and mellow scent.
YOSHIYUKI AND JUNKO HORIBE
Husband and wife team Yoshiyuki and Junko Horibe create their beautiful designs in their workshop, a renovated old Japanese house in the Gifu Prefecture of Japan.
Their work redefines time honoured Japanese design, taking traditional timbers and craftsmanship into a fresh new direction, open to the influence of international design. The timber they select not only has unique aesthetic qualities and fragrances but also benefits such as emitting compounds that have a relaxing effect.
They emphasise functionality in their work, carefully selecting and combining finishes and materials to create their designs.
