The PL 61 armchair demonstrates the genius and unmistakable style of the designer. A combination of contrasting materials fibreglass and plywood make up the unusual base. The fibreglass frame, which is lacquered white, houses moulded foam padding upholstered in natural leather or fabric and supported by attractive wooden “x”-shaped plywood legs; creating a light and balanced silhouette.

The anatomical shape of the fibreglass shell resulted in the PL 61 model being probably one of the most comfortable examples of Lafer’s work.

In partnership with and his daughters, Percival Lafer recreated with ETEL this iconic piece with exquisite finishes and construction updated for our time.

PERICAL LAFER

Born in 1936,  Percival Lafer graduated in Architecture from Mackenzie University in São Paulo. At a young age, after finishing college, he had to take over his father's furniture company, Lafer, together with his brothers. As a result, his passion for architecture could not be fully exercised. Some examples of his work as an architect include houses designed for personal friends, urban furniture designs, and architectural components.

Percival Lafer's work as a designer has left an indelible mark on the furniture industry in Brazil. From the beginning his work has always been marked by boldness and originality. For him, each project had to reflect state of the art technology and deign, applied to innovative ideas. Through his way of interpreting contemporary design, original ideas emerged, many of which were protected by patents.
