A curved wooden shape envelopes a seat wrapped in quilted velvet upholstery. The Paraíso armchair appears light, suspended on slender metal cylinders, an elegant reinterpretation of Brazilian modernism. Paraíso is the first piece designed by Cristina Celestino, Maison & Objet’s 2022 Designer of the Year, for the ETEL collection.

CRISTINA CELESTINO

After studying architecture at the University of Venice (IUAV), Cristina Celestino founded Attico Design, and in 2013 opened a studio in Milan. Today Cristina is an interior and industrial designer with experience in many industries, including hospitality, retail and furniture design; she particularly likes to design sofas. Cristina is passionate about materials, geometry, history and traditions, changing the scale of objects, creating new conceptual and decorative principles, where nature speaks with unanimity. She intertwines a trans-disciplinary approach with analytical rigour, leading to unexpected spaces, objects and experiences.
