GERRIT THOMAS RIETVELD
1888 - 1964
Gerrit Rietveld was a Dutch designer and architect, he is the most fanous for creating several iconic pieces of modern furniture - less so for lighting. In 1923, Walter Gropius invited Rietveld to exhibit at the Bauhaus.
The hanging lamp from 1922 is a classic of the Tecta collection. His tafellampje from 1925 had never been produced in series until, in consultation with Rietveld’s heirs, Tecta produced a first limited edition of 200 numbered and signed lamps. The tafellampje has been reinterpreted as the L25 by the Studio für Gestaltung.
