The Joaquim Side Table is a faithful rendition of an original piece with mosaic, design and execution by Paulo Werneck. The originals were made between the 1940s and 1950s, as gifts for friends and clients.

The table was named after designer Joaquim Tenreiro, a great friend, who used to build pieces for Paulo in his shop. The mosaics are executed in the artist’s studio, and each piece is numbered.

PAULO WERNECK

1907 - 1987

This self-taught Brazilian modernist created important panels for influential architects, including brothers Roberto and Affonso Eduardo Reidy and Oscar Niemeyer. For the latter, he made the murals for the nave of the São Francisco de Assis da Pampulha Church.

Werneck also created the panels seen at the Maracanã Stadium and Ministry of Finance in Rio de Janeiro, at the Senate and Itamaraty Palace in Brasília and at the Banco do Brasil in the Old Recife district in Recife. He was also the creator of over 300 murals in residential, public and commercial buildings throughout Brazil.
