WILLIAM DUNKEL
1893-1980
William Dunkel worked for the architect Wilhelm Kreis in Düsseldorf and founded his own office there in 1923. Like Le Corbusier and Walter Gropius, William Dunkel was a representative of New Building and consistently implemented the architectural style in Switzerland. In 1929 he was appointed full professor of architecture at the ETH Zurich.
Dunkel designed the D15 chair for Tecta in the 1960s, which has been carefully adapted to today’s ergonomic needs. The newly developed variant is called D43; soft, rounded and homely, with shapely cushions for long, comfortable and relaxed sitting at the dining table.
