This Japanese modernist chaise lounge was designed by Sadao Nagaoka in 1970. Its metal frame and flexible woven rattan bed perfectly fits the user’s body for maximum comfort.
The sophisticated fine weaving technique and beautiful detailing features give the rattan the impression of being ‘hand-knitted’ by craftsmen.
The Sadao Nagaoka Design Office was established in 1970 and is highly regarded, with many designs awarded prizes and Good Design Awards.
SADAO NAGAOKA
(1934 - )
Born in Tokyo in 1934, he studied architecture and design in Tokyo and Los Angeles. He established the Sadao Nagaoka Design Office in 1970 and is highly regarded for having contributed to the design world over many years. In 2000 he recieved an award for his distinguished service to design by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
His designs have received many Good Design Awards and continue to inspired new generations of designers.
