1926 saw Ludwig Mies van der Rohe design, with a single brushstroke, what many considered to be the most beautiful chair of the century. The first springy cantilever of its kind, the Weissenhof with its nickel-plated steel tube frame is elegant and unique. It was designed with (D42) and without (B42) arm rests.

The wicker seat and back have been reproduced from historical documents and handwoven in Germany following the design originally created by Lilly Reich, Mies van der Rohe’s personal and professional collaborator for over 10 years. The family of Lilly Reich have authorised and certified the reissue. Frame handmade and wickerwork handwoven to order in Germany.

MIES VAN DER ROHE 1886-1969. LILLY REICH 1885-1947

Considered one of the most important architects of modernism, Mies van der Rohe collaborated on modern furniture designs and architectural projects with his personal and professional partner Lilly Reich for over 10 years. Together, they created modern masterpieces that remain icons to this day, including the famous Barcelona Pavilion in 1929 and the Tugendhat House in Brno. Two of their best known modern furniture designs from this period are the Barcelona Chair and Brno Chair.

Mies van der Rohe became the director of the Bauhaus School of design and architecture in 1930 and Lilly Reich joined him as one of few females on staff, teaching interior design and furniture and textile design. In 1938 Mies emigrated to the U.S. Reich continued to manage her affairs in Germany, until her death in 1947.
